Minister Miller highlights Budget 2024 investments to support local performing arts and fairness for every generation

Today in Montréal, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, revealed a grand plan to inject $31 million over two years into the Canada Arts Presentation Fund as part of Budget 2024. This substantial funding, with $800,000 dedicated to supporting TOHU and the Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque, aims to elevate Montréal’s vibrant circus arts community and foster local talent.
Highlighting the essence of community bonding through arts and culture, Minister Miller emphasized the significant impact of this investment on the economy and job market. By backing TOHU and the Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque, the government is not just supporting local artists but also boosting tourism and enriching the cultural landscape of Montréal.
Stéphane Lavoie, General and Programming Director at TOHU, praised the government for recognizing the crucial role of culture in society and enabling Montréal to shine as an international hub for circus arts. Patricia Lattanzio, MP for Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel, echoed the sentiment, noting the broader community benefits that arise from initiatives like the Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque.
The funding, part of Budget 2024’s comprehensive plan for a fairer Canada, includes measures to improve housing affordability, healthcare, education, and childcare. By adjusting capital gains taxes, the government aims to generate substantial revenue to support younger generations and make transformative investments across provinces and territories.
