Statement by Minister Miller on Canada Day

**Title:** Canada Day Celebration Embraces Unity and Diversity
In a heartfelt message marking Canada Day, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Marc Miller emphasized the importance of reflecting on the shared history, symbols, and values that bind Canadians together. Honoring the Indigenous Peoples who have long stewarded the land, Minister Miller stressed the intrinsic role they play in shaping the country’s past, present, and future.
Minister Miller highlighted the duty of all Canadians to advance reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, underscoring the significance of understanding and acknowledging their rights and contributions. To further this commitment, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship collaborated with Indigenous creators to integrate Indigenous voices and experiences into the citizenship process.
As part of the celebratory events on Canada Day, a special citizenship ceremony was held at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, coinciding with the annual Canada Day game of the Toronto Blue Jays. Such ceremonies are happening across the nation, offering newcomers a poignant moment as they take their oath of citizenship.
Encouraging participation in these ceremonies, Minister Miller invited individuals to witness the deep sense of pride that comes with embracing Canadian identity. The minister’s call for engagement and learning also extended to celebrating diversity, promoting inclusivity and multiculturalism, which are foundational pillars of Canadian society.
Minister Miller urged Canadians to explore Canada Day festivities in their communities, emphasizing the value of giving back, learning about Indigenous cultures, and welcoming newcomers who have chosen Canada as their home. The diversity and unity that characterize Canada were celebrated, showcasing the nation’s strengths and values.
As Canada Day celebrations unfolded nationwide, the message rang clear: in unity and diversity, Canadians stand together with pride and respect for their country. Happy Canada Day!
