In a devastating turn of events, search teams in London, Ont. have recovered the body of a seven-year-old girl who had gone missing in the Thames River last week. The young girl, known as Anna Bielli, was last seen near the campus of Western University before her disappearance sparked a massive search effort involving boats, divers, and a police helicopter.
After days of exhaustive searching, the child’s remains were located in the river near Perth Drive and University Drive on Sunday afternoon, more than three kilometers downstream from where Bielli was last seen. While police did not officially identify the victim in their statement, Bielli’s mother, Karen Fermill, confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media, expressing gratitude for the prayers and support received during the search.
During a news conference held near the University Drive Bridge, police shared that the discovery was made by members of London police’s marine unit and the London Fire Department. Inspector Sean Travis expressed his condolences to the family, acknowledging the dedication of the search teams and the emotional toll of the tragic event.
The search for Bielli began on Thursday after a report that she had entered the water near the Adelaide Street bridge and was seen struggling. The family’s church, Anchor Church, stood by the grieving family during this difficult time, with plans for funeral arrangements to be announced soon.
