Title: Federal Investment in Montreal’s Circus Arts Creates Economic Boost and Community Unity
Montréal, June 26, 2024 – In a visionary move to support the flourishing cultural landscape of Montréal and enhance community infrastructure across the country, the federal government is allocating $31 million over two years for the Canada Arts Presentation Fund. The investment, announced by the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, includes $800,000 earmarked for TOHU, a prominent performing arts theater in Montréal, and the enchanting circus programs of the Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque.
The festivities at the Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque will transform the city into a vibrant celebration of circus arts, with high-flying performers from Montréal and beyond dazzling audiences for 11 days. This immersive experience will take over various venues, streets, parks, and even sidewalks, showcasing Montréal’s illustrious status as a global hub for circus arts.
Minister Marc Miller emphasized the significance of supporting local artists and cultural industries, highlighting their pivotal role as economic drivers that enrich lives, provide jobs, boost tourism, and bolster community businesses. The investment in the arts sector not only fosters creativity but also unites communities through shared experiences and appreciation for diverse cultural expressions.
Stéphane Lavoie, General and Programming Director of TOHU, expressed gratitude for the government’s recognition of the cultural impact on citizens, emphasizing how the support will enable them to meet increased broadcasting costs and elevate Montréal’s reputation as the international capital of circus arts.
Furthermore, MP Patricia Lattanzio of Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel lauded the government’s backing of projects like the Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque for fostering job creation, boosting the tourism industry, and enhancing the overall well-being of the community.
The federal government’s investment in cultural initiatives aligns with Budget 2024’s broader aim of building a fairer Canada for present and future generations. By increasing capital gains taxes on a small percentage of Canadians, the government aims to generate essential revenue to fund transformative investments in housing, healthcare, education, childcare, infrastructure, and more, ensuring equal opportunities for all Canadians.
Through these proactive measures, the government is not only stimulating economic growth and job creation but also nurturing a vibrant cultural scene that unites communities, celebrates diversity, and paves the way for a brighter future for all Canadians.
