Boil-water advisory lifted in eastern Montreal after water main break

Montreal Bounces Back: Boil-Water Advisory Lifted After Water Main Burst Causes Chaos
Montreal, known for its charm and vibrancy, faced a watery disruption when a major water main burst in eastern Montreal near the Jacques Cartier Bridge. The incident led to a dramatic geyser on René-Lévesque Boulevard, flooding streets, homes, and businesses in its path.
Approximately 150,000 residents in parts of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, and Montréal-Est were placed under a boil-water advisory, which has now been lifted, bringing relief to the affected areas.
Despite the chaos that ensued, the city managed to control the situation by the early afternoon. While some major arteries have been reopened, a section of René-Lévesque Boulevard near de Lorimier Avenue remains closed for repairs.
The repair work is ongoing, with Montreal residents being reminded to exercise caution as efforts to fully restore the water main and surrounding infrastructure will take some time. City spokesperson Phillipe Sabourin emphasized that repairs may take weeks, as the necessary parts and equipment are not readily available.
Investigations into the cause of the water main break are underway, with the city focusing on addressing damaged pipes and sewers in the area. Residents have been advised to file claims for damages within 15 days.
Montreal is now on the road to recovery as life gradually returns to normal in the affected neighborhoods. The city’s resilience shines through as it tackles the aftermath of this unexpected event.
